Frequently asked questions
What is The Purple Plague initiative?
The Purple Plague is an independent, employee-led platform created by and for the team members of the Hagerstown Hub. Our goal is to collect anonymous, fact-based data on our working conditions, safety, and compensation to advocate for positive, systemic improvements in our workplace.
Is this an official company site?
No. This is an independent initiative organized by non-management employees engaged in Protected Concerted Activity. We are not affiliated with, funded by, or directed by FedEx corporate management. We are simply co-workers looking out for each other.
Why are you collecting this information?
Individual complaints are often dismissed as isolated incidents. By gathering hundreds of stories and data points, we create an undeniable picture of the systemic reality on the floor. We use this aggregated data to advocate for specific changes—like better staffing, safer equipment, and fair compensation—with management and relevant regulatory bodies.
What do you mean by "Protected Concerted Activity"?
Under federal law (the National Labor Relations Act), employees have the right to act together to improve their wages and working conditions. This includes discussing pay, safety hazards, and staffing levels. Participating in this survey and advocating for change is a legally protected right for every employee.
Is my participation truly anonymous?
Yes. We do not collect names, employee IDs, or contact information unless you voluntarily provide an email for updates (which is kept separately encrypted). Our website and survey tools are configured to ensure your identity remains private.
Can management see my responses?
No. Management does not have access to our data. The information you submit is aggregated (combined with everyone else's) before being used in any report or advocacy letter. Your individual story helps build the big picture without exposing you personally.
Can I be disciplined for taking this survey?
No. Participating in a survey about working conditions on your own time is a protected activity. Furthermore, company policy prohibits retaliation against employees who report concerns in good faith.
How do I know this site is secure?
We use industry-standard encryption and security measures to protect the website and data. We have taken specific steps to ensure the platform is independent and secure from internal monitoring.
